Nick Crimp, LMHC
About Nick
My career in the mental health field began in 2013, when I earned a Certificate Degree of Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency Counseling. While I worked in outpatient substance use and dependency counseling for a time, I decided to pursue a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling, as a way to better address the underlying mental health issues of the people I worked with.
I obtained my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University Seattle in 2018. I did my internship in community mental health and then joined a DBT-based group practice while I completed my Associate License requirements. Since 2021, I have had a private practice in the town of Twisp, in north-central Washington.
My personal interests include physical fitness, and outdoor activities like hiking, running, and skiing. I have a strong interest in nature and ecology, which ties into my enjoyment of gardening. I love games of all sorts, especially tabletop and role-playing games, such as Dungeons and Dragons. When it comes to books and movies, I especially enjoy themes of science fiction, horror, fantasy, mythology, politics, and history. I am also an animal lover, and have proudly embraced the label of “Cat Whisperer” bestowed upon me by friends and family.

Specialties
I enjoy working with people who would like to better understand their emotions; how to communicate them and regulate them. I provide counseling for people with mood and personality disorders. I work with many clients who have a history of self harm, and suicidal ideation/attempts. I also work with people seeking support for substance use/recovery issues, and people on the autism spectrum.
The goals of my clients are central to my approach. It is important to me to understand not only what someone wants out of therapy, but what they want to be different in their life. Beginning therapy with a new counselor puts one in a vulnerable position - one in which trust must be established, in both the counselor and the process. Each person has their own set of experiences and way of being. My hope is to truly hear my clients, and help them navigate their own personal journey.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Dialiectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based therapy that can be employed to treat a range of symptoms and issues, including emotional dysregulation, substance use problems, personality disorders, self harm, and suicidal ideation.
DBT draws on principles and techniques from Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Zen Buddhism (among others). The acquisition and application of DBT skills is central to the therapy. The four DBT skill modules are Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness.
Existential Psychology
Existential Psychology is concerned with the universal themes of human existence. These themes are addressed in therapy through the lived subjective experience of the individual. An Existential approach helps the client explore the deeper sources of their anxieties, such as life’s unanswered questions, and its confounding paradoxes.
